The mistakes they made were obvious, but once these mistakes were pointed out to them, they came up with a long list of excuses and then, after long arguments, apologies and, finally, the necessary corrections.
We had to spend a lot of unnecessary effort getting them to do what they were supposed to do in the first place.
The experience can best be described as similar to a tooth ache. You can do a lot better.
